The Super Bowl champions, the New Orleans
Saints, are just one of the many sports attractions NOLA offers.
Sure, visitors can take in a pro football game at the Superdome,
but they can also see the best educational institutions have to
offer in multiple college football bowl games throughout the
football season. For basketball fans, catch NBA star Chris Paul and
the Hornets for under $10! Baseball fans can catch a Zephyr game, a
Florida Marlins AAA affiliate, April through August in
Metairie.
The New Orleans Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots, a Churchill
Downs Inc., owned business, runs races Thursdays through Sundays
November through March, and Thursdays through Mondays December
through February.
Even golf enthusiasts have something to look forward to in the
spring when professional golf’s biggest names come to play through
New Orleans.
For runners, the Crescent City Classic provides 10,000 meters of
foot-pounding endurance. The route takes runners and fans from the
start at Jackson Square, through the CBD to the beautiful Esplanade
Avenue to the shade of the old oaks of City Park. Every year
thousands of runners, spectators, family members, and supporters
flock to the city to watch the annual sprint.
The Mardi Gras Marathon is another exciting event for runners.
Worldwide participants, spectators, and supporters come to NOLA
each year to make their way through the French Quarter, the Garden
District, Audubon Park, City Park, and cross the finish line at the
Superdome. Upon completion, a Mardi Gras-style bash awaits,
providing enough motivation for even the not-so-athletic among
us!
New Orleans has much to offer sports fans; professional and
collegiate level competitions, along with challenging events that
even beginners can participate in. For some of the best sporting
events in the world, New Orleans is the place to be!
